Celebrate Little Quokka’s Big Birthday on Rottnest Island

The Cook Government is supporting families to experience a day trip to Rottnest Island by waiving same day return island admission fees for children 16 years and under on 20-21 September.
The Cook Government is supporting families to experience a day trip to Rottnest Island by waiving same day return island admission fees for children 16 years and under on 20-21 September.

Families are invited to celebrate the arrival of quokka joeys at Little Quokka’s Big Birthday Weekend, held on Rottnest Island from 20-21 September 2025.

Rottnest Island admission fees will be waived for children, helping families save up to $10.50 per child.

This year’s event features an expanded program of interactive family activities including:

  • Live music and entertainment
  • Arts, crafts and sensory play experiences, including building a native bee hotel and creating art from recycled materials
  • Conservation and eco-education sessions, such as meeting birds of prey
  • Interactive quokka talks with island rangers

Rottnest Island is internationally renowned for its population of quokkas, with visitors travelling from across the globe to see these iconic marsupials in their natural habitat. Little Quokka’s Big Birthday offers a unique opportunity to learn more about quokkas while enjoying a weekend of free, family-friendly activities.
