New infrastructure enhances Rottnest Island’s year-round appeal
The Cook Government has welcomed the completion of The Lodge Wadjemup, a significant infrastructure upgrade that enhances Wadjemup / Rottnest Island’s capacity to host business events and cater to diverse visitor needs year-round.
Located behind the historic settlement and overlooking the iconic salt lakes, The Lodge Wadjemup offers 109 rooms, including interconnecting family suites, a guest-only pool precinct, and a Gathering Ground that reflects the cultural significance of the site.
The new functions & events centre accommodates up to 140 guests, adding vital capacity to the island’s business events infrastructure.
These new facilities complement existing venues such as Samphire Rottnest, Hotel Rottnest, and Discovery Resorts, offering a broader range of pricing and experiences for leisure and corporate travellers.
The development supports key initiatives under the Rottnest Island Management Plan 2023–28 and the Western Australian Visitor Economy Strategy 2033, which aim to grow business tourism, diversify the visitor base, and improve accessibility.
New interconnecting family rooms and poolside accommodation offer flexible options for families and groups, while seasonal campaigns like the Wrap Yourself in Wonder winter campaign encourage off-season travel with discounted ferry, accommodation, and experiences available until 31 August.
The Cook Government is committed to its economic diversification strategy to support tourism and hospitality businesses on Rottnest Island.
In 2023-24, Rottnest Island welcomed over 823,000 visitors by ferry adding to Western Australia's economy and tourism-filled jobs.
