Wadjemup Wirin Bidi Selected for Four Prestigious Film Festivals – Including International Premieres

Wadjemup Wirin Bidi, a powerful short film created as part of the broader Wadjemup Project, was selected as a finalist in four respected film festivals across Australia and internationally.
Wadjemup Wirin Bidi, a powerful short film created as part of the broader Wadjemup Project, was selected as a finalist in four respected film festivals across Australia and internationally.

The recognition celebrated the strength of Aboriginal storytelling and the cultural significance of the project's aim for truth-telling.

The international and national festival selections: 

INCUFF Indigenous Culture Film Festival – Denizli, Turkey 

The film was screened internationally with narration subtitled in Turkish, offering a unique opportunity to share Noongar language and stories with new audiences abroad. 

Canberra Short Film Festival – ACT 
Wadjemup Wirin Bidi returned to this respected national festival, showcasing the depth and quality of creative work led by Aboriginal voices. 

ASINABKA Film & Media Arts Festival – Ottawa, Canada 

Selected as part of the Lost Tapes program, the film was presented alongside other Indigenous stories from around the world, amplifying its message of remembrance and reconciliation.

Darwin International Film Festival - NT 

The film was screened as part of the Indigenous Shorts program on 18 September, continuing its journey of cultural storytelling and commemoration. 

Managing the Wadjemup Project is a key initiative of the Rottnest Island Management Plan 2023–28.
