Rottnest Island Barge

South Thomson Barge Landing

A vital upgrade to Rottnest Island’s maritime infrastructure, with the proposed South Thomson Barge Landing project.

Overview

Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) has aspirational plans to transition the island’s barging operations away from the main jetty to the former Army Groyne in South Thomson Bay. This will help reduce visitor congestion and improve the arrival experience.

Consultation on this proposed project has now closed.

Key benefits

Relocating critical barging operations
Introducing a new ferry berth, backup fueling facilities and undercover storage
Improving the functionality and safety of the Main Jetty
Reduce risk associated with a single entry-point to the island
