Oliver Hill has been upgraded to enhance visitor access to this nationally significant defence heritage site, with new facilities and transport options.
Overview
Oliver Hill, recognised for its historical significance, has received infrastructure improvements as part of the Rottnest Island Management Plan 2020-24. The upgrades were designed to complement Oliver Hill's World War II heritage, which includes an intricate network of underground tunnels and military remnants.
Visitors will benefit from the enhanced transport hub, allowing seamless connection between bus and the iconic “Captain Hussey” train services. New seating, picnic areas, refurbished ablutions, and interpretive signage enhance the visitor experience, making the historical narratives and panoramic views more accessible.

Improving a National Tourism Icon
On 9 April 2019, the Federal Tourism Minister announced an investment of $17.2 million for vital infrastructure upgrades to help enhance the visitor experience, embrace cultural heritage, and ensure the long-term sustainability of Rottnest Island. The Oliver Hill upgrades were undertaken as part of this funding.
