Water Infrastructure
Overview
The Water Infrastructure upgrade addresses the critical need for a robust water supply network that can adequately support the increasing demands of both tourists and island businesses in peak visitation periods.
The project aims to revamp the island’s outdated system, including the desalination plant, water mains and distribution network and essential services corridor. This strategic upgrade is vital for meeting both current and future water demands as well as enhancing firefighting capabilities. The Water Infrastructure Master Plan guides the multi-stage delivery, ensuring a sustainable and efficient water service for the next two decades.
This project is a key priority of the Rottnest Island Management Plan 2023-28, which includes a strategic focus on strengthening the island’s infrastructure to address legacy issues and ensure the island can sustainably meet future demand.
