Iconic WA event returns to Rottnest Island
The highly regarded 19.7 km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island attracts thousands of participants each year.
Swimmers can compete solo, in a duo or a team. All swimmers have a support network of paddlers, boat skippers and crew to ensure their safety during the channel crossing.
Depending on conditions, the first swimmers are expected to arrive at the island on the southern side of the Fuel Jetty at around 10 am, so spectators are advised to be on the island by 9:30 am.
All spectators are encouraged to wear masks and socially distance. Anyone within the event area will be required to use the WA Government’s ServiceWA or SafeWA app. The apps are available from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
There are plenty of viewing spots to see the competitors finish the race including the following:
- Beach in front of Isola Bar and Restaurant,
- Grassed area in front of the Salt Store,
- The Fuel Jetty, and
- Mezzanine area above the Visitor Centre.
Capacity at some licensed venues on the island have been reduced following the introduction of the two square metre rule for hospitality from 21 February as part of health and social measures introduced by the State Government.
Parking
As one of the busiest days of the year for Rottnest Island, spectators are encouraged to leave plenty of time to find parking at the ferry terminals before departure time.
For visitors departing from B-Shed Fremantle, additional parking will be available at South Metropolitan TAFE Fremantle Campus on Fleet Street.
