Overview
The Renewable Energy and Electrical Infrastructure Upgrades project is set to transform Rottnest Island's energy framework. This initiative is a response to the island's growing visitor numbers and the need for sustainable infrastructure.
Currently, the major source of the island's power is diesel generators, with the remainder from wind and solar.
This plan aligns with the State Government’s Climate Policy, targeting net-zero emissions by 2050.
Key benefits
Doubling solar power capacity, replacing existing wind turbine to improve efficiency, and installing large-scale battery storage to achieve renewable energy targets
New technology to improve energy capacity and distribution efficiency
Modernised and reliable power distribution network
Projected to cut diesel use by 40%, abating 4,000 tonnes of carbon annually
